About KCHA

The Kentucky Cutting Horse Association is a local non-profit association to support the sport of cutting. We are a local affiliate of the National association – The National Cutting Horse Association. www.nchacutting.org The KCHA holds between 5-7 shows per year, 2 of those shows are held in conjunction with the Kentucky State fair and the North American International Livestock Exposition. KCHA currently holds it shows at Rocky Fork Arena in Shelbyville, KY. We have thousands of entries throughout the show season, the majority of them consisting of KY residents with the balance coming from surrounding states.

What is CUTTING?

Cutting is an equine sport in which each contestant is allowed two and a-half minutes to cut at least two cows from the herd. The rider must bring at least one cow out from deep inside the herd during his run (performance). If he brings out a small group and waits for all but one to peel (go back to the herd), he has “cut for shape.” His other cuts may be chipped from the edge of the herd.
